"I make poor decisions" -Carrie
I'm out in the front yard raking the clippings from the first mowing of the season and have the iPod on shuffle. I end up listening to a number of songs that I would normally skip, partly because I'm just really caught up in the raking but also because it's an iPod touch (not to say look how cool I am because of my iPod touch - but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck... I think you get the idea) and you have to slide your finger across it, then touch the "now playing" button, and then skip to the next song. So not a huge hassle but enough of a bother to convince me to just listen to whatever is playing.
The song that found its way to my ears this evening was "Jesus take the wheel" by Carrie Underwood. I call your attention to the first verse (emphasis added):
She was driving last Friday on her way to Cincinnati
On a snow white Christmas Eve
Going home to see her Mama and her Daddy
With the baby in the backseat
Fifty miles to go and she was running low
On faith and gasoline
It'd been a long hard year
She had a lot on her mind and she didn't pay attention
She was going way too fast
Before she knew it she was spinning
On a thin black sheet of glass
She saw both their lives flash before her eyes
She didn't even have time to cry
She was so scared
She threw her hands up in the air
Jesus, take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this on my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I'm on
Jesus, take the wheel
Now I don't mean this as a knock on female drivers in general, but just this driver in particular. Are you serious? You start spinning out and what do you do? THROW YOUR HANDS UP IN THE AIR? Are you kidding me? How about you think back to your driver's training course - I don't care how long or hard of a year it's been. You have a baby in the back seat for crying out loud. Take some responsibility. I understand it's a scary situation but you know what's going to make it worse? Taking your hands off the wheel.
Can you imagine if that pilot who landed the plane in the Hudson river (Scully? Or is that a X-Files caracter?) just threw his hands up like that? The scene on the major news networks would have looked a lot different that's for sure. You can't just panic and throw your hands up in those situations, that's all I'm saying.

Matt, you crack me up! I totally agree. What was she thinking?!?
Is the software up to date on your iTouch? If so, double click - iPod controls pop up on your screen - skip to the next song. This new feature eliminates the need to use the pesky slide to open . . . I'm just sayin' . . . that's what I heard (& actually use)
As always, very funny post - thanks for fathering my grandson - I hope he has your & his grandfather's sarcastic genes.
Matt, I think maybe it's supposed to be allegorical or analagous, you know, one of those two. Symbolically interpreting, not bad, literally interpreting, kind of strange. Taking a look at it this way now, do you see what I mean?
